Shahad Al Azzaz, the founder of Azaz Architects, was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to a famous journalist and photographer, Saleh Alazzaz. After earning her BA in Architecture from the University of Manchester and an MA in Architectural Design and Project Management from the IE Business School in Madrid, her career rapidly took off.
She joined a Spanish firm as a summer intern, but was quickly appointed to manage projects she brought in from the Middle East. With a continuously growing passion for the job and tireless ambition, Alazzaz has completed a variety of projects that span from residential spaces to massive public projects.
In 2017, Alazzaz founded Azaz Architects, a new venture seen as a continuation of the design process, whilst approaching her passion for design with a “new philosophy”. One of her most emblematic projects, Villa Mansour, is the inspiration for the one-of-a-kind rug she designed for Alia Dawood and Oliva Sartogo in collaboration with The Invisible Collection.
Azaz Architects is based between Riyadh and Madrid, tailoring site-specific projects for an international clientele. Shahad Alazzaz is also a Royal Institute of Brititish Architects (RIBA) representative in Riyadh.
