Victor Cadene

Stories Editor's Pick Victor Cadene

Discover one of the most colourful characters of contemporary interior decoration.

Artist and illustrator Victor Cadene has caught our eye with his lovely, spirited drawings and artworks that grace the homes of collectors and stores’ windows across the globe. His work is colourful and vibrant, defined by fantastic, unexpected patterns that enliven fabrics, wallpapers, and entire decors. Tapping into the tradition of French Arts Decoratifs, Victor creates everything in his Paris studio, where he combines original, visual elements to create new, powerful motifs.

Besides his fantastic drawings – in the likes of the wonderful artwork he specially created for the cover of The Invisible Collection’s Fifth Anniversary Catalogue – Victor is a master of decoupage, a delicate collage technique. The painstaking process of decoupage, the French word for cut out, starts with several drawings that are carefully cut-out by hand and then arranged and pasted on a surface in order to create a new image. This is the pattern that will be printed on fabrics and wallpapers: Victor’s signature style.

Alongside his many, noteworthy collaborations with established brands in the likes of  Diptyque and Duvelleroy, Victor Cadene has designed a gorgeous exclusive fabric for famed Maison Thévénon, which has inspired French Cliché a limited edition of designs available through us.

Drawing from 17th century imagery found on the traditional toile de Jouy, Victor Cadene designed an exquisite fabric defined by vibrant colours and unexpected silhouettes. A custom-made iteration of the fabric – hand painted with delicate golden strokes by Cadene – was used to make a gorgeous folding screen.
