Stories News New In: May – Maylis et Charles Tassin

The design duo behind some outstanding, never-seen-before projects, joins Invisible Collection. Discover their latest furniture pieces: each one is an instant classic!

Keen collectors and design aficionados are familiar with the French word ensemblier, which roughly translates to a designer who is responsible for each single décor element in a space: the furnishings, the color scheme, the accessories, the overall aesthetic. That’s what Charles Tassin is known for.

For many years, the French architect has been authoring some outstanding interior design projects, defined by a classically contemporary mix, and exquisite materials. Giving a very personal interpretation of French taste, Charles Tassin’s signature style is one of understated luxury and timeless elegance. His projects capture many eras and moods that seamlessly come together in a serene flow: neo-classicism meets Art Deco with a contemporary edge.

Working closely with his wife Maylis Queyrat– an accomplished contemporary artist – Charles Tassin founded Galerie May in 2010, a serene space in the heart of Rive Gauche, poetically named after his spouse.

May – Maylis et Charles Tassin is also the label of the design duo: furniture pieces and lighting fixtures that epitomize the couple’s ingenious take on twentieth century design. Now, the fantastic array of pieces they have been creating for confidential projects, since the launch of their label, is finally available for purchase through Invisible Collection.

The 39-piece offering includes some striking armchairs defined by pure, clear-cut lines: they look simple, yet the intricate detailing and seamless built will delight design connoisseurs. Striking the perfect balance between masculine and feminine, Maylis and Charles Tassin inject into their work a soulful energy whilst revisiting seminal references from the twentieth century.

Jean Arp’s dada sculptures and de Chirico’s metaphysical paintings influence the distinctive shapes of some tables and a console. Geometric lines from the forties and Hollywood glam from the 50s inform the style of some chairs and sofas. Mixing high and low, the design duo can play with cultural tropes, drawing as easily from sci-fi B movies as from the enduring legacy of Bauhaus aesthetic.

Each piece from the collection is the epitome of chic, comfort, and superior craft… in other words, an instant classic!
