Frieze Preview: The Invisible Collection x Sotheby’s

Stories News Frieze Preview: The Invisible Collection x Sotheby’s

The Invisible Collection teams up with Sotheby’s and presents a limited edition of furniture by Studioparisien x Métaphores

In the exciting week leading to Frieze, The Invisible Collection took over Sotheby’s Preferred Members’ Room and furnished it with a curated selection of conversation pieces that will be available for purchase. There will be more than one talking point during the seven-day art frenzy at the auction house: besides the Contemporary Art Evening Sale headlined by Banksy’s iconic ‘Love is in the Bin’ (yes, that artwork, partially shredded live, minutes after being bought, in 2018), there will be The Invisible Collection’s presentation of new, exclusive pieces by Studioparisien

We embraced the space – famously dotted with Damien Hirst’s Butterflies – and envisioned an elegant, experiential setting filled with a limited edition of new designs by Studioparisien specially dressed in Métaphores exclusive fabric.

Design aficionados are familiar with the French manufacturer operating within the Hermès Group. For years, Métaphores has been creating the plushest fabrics and textiles for the home, selecting the best materials, and working with skilled weavers. Like a fashion house, the brand regularly sends out new collections defined by amazing colour palettes, rich patterns, and sophisticated materials.

Studioparisien was among the first French leading design studios to join The Invisible Collection. Its founders, Laurene B. Tardrew and Romain Jourdan, come from the fashion world and work closely with luxury brands. Known for their rigorous, elegant projects, they have made their mark in high-end interior design, for both private and commercial projects, by conjuring chic atmospheres defined by understated luxury.

The limited edition Studioparisien x Métaphores is a masterful reminder of French savoir-faire and creativity expressed through a covetable array of seating. The Panther sofa is a gorgeous design that recalls the feline’s posture gracefully lying down. Skillfully upholstered by Atelier Jouffre, the sofa is in Métaphores Concorde fabric, from the new fall collection.

Concorde is a limited edition of textiles in linen velvet. This unique, rare fabric is weaved and dyed following a meticulous, artisanal process. The linen’s fibers stand out for their luxuriance and incomparable texture lending the Concorde Collection a voluptuous quality enhanced by a colour palette of thirteen natural shades. Moreover, linen is made from an eco-friendly fiber that contributes to soil preservation as it requires no fertilizer and little water.

In addition to the Panther Sofa, Sotheby’s Preferred Members’ Room is outfitted with the gorgeous Sévigné Armchair and A Ottoman – the former upholstered in alluring Métaphores Suede Terre Cuite and the latter in Caroube Sorgho – and the Sévigné Bench in Métaphores Cosy Caviar. This line of furniture is a tribute to Madame de Sévigné, a French aristocrat and writer viewed as one of the first female authors in classic literature.

Highlights from the collection on show include the elegant Coqui coffee-table featuring a beautifully hand-painted finish on its top made by French artist Martin Berger; and a couple of elegant rugs hand-made in the renowned Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne. The December Rug is an all-creamy-and-white enticing delight; the September Rug conjures the colours of fall through a playful, dotted pattern.

The Studioparisien x Métaphores Collection can be viewed and enjoyed at Sotheby’s Preferred Members’ Room until 14 October. The pieces on show are available for purchase exclusively through us.

Studioparisien

Laurene, an interior designer from the Penninghen art school, and Romain, a scenographer and designer, met whilst working on their first project for a French luxury House. «A true revelation!» they both said. Their collaboration is as fluid as it ebullient, and it feeds on their very complementary differences. Their highly symbiotic artistic sensibility led them to create their own interior architecture and design agency. Uniting and combining their ideas, they design expressive, elegant and contemporary spaces that showcase the high quality of French craftsmanship.
