Stories News An Auction To Remember

Discover a unique folding screen that will be on display at Christie’s, available exclusively on The Invisible Collection.

For this season’s sale of decorative arts, Christie’s Paris has chosen tastemaker Eloïse Gilles, co-founder of Mayaro, to create a dialogue between contemporary artists of her choice and works spanning from the 17th to 20th Century.

The Collector: Le Goût français is the title of the auction that features works from private collections from France and Europe. This event is a great opportunity to celebrate the unparalleled French savoir-faire and pay tribute to artists and craftsmen, especially at a time when supporting them is all the more important.

With interiors designed by Maison Jansen, lots include pieces of European Furniture, Ceramics, Silver, Old Master Paintings and Drawings, Carpets, Tapestries and Chinese works of art. Great designers and makers featured in this sale include Guillaume Benman, Roger Van der Cruse, Philippe Claude Montigny, Georges Jacob, Jean-François Oeben…

The very talented Eloïse Gilles has picked some unique designs, including a paper and bamboo suspension by Jérôme Gelès, feather art by Janaïna Milheiro, wood sculptures by Maxime Perrolle, golden weavings by Frédérique Lamagnère, porcelain by Laëtitia de Bazelaire and a dazzling metal tapestry by Morgane Baroghel-Crucq.

Eloïse Gilles has also curated the set in which the items will be displayed, and added a very personal touch by marking the space with stunning straw marquetry panels. This one-of-a-kind piece by Manon Bouvier, after a design by Flavia de Laubadère, will not be auctioned, but will be available exclusively on The Invisible Collection. Made out of black lacquer and marquetry of straw and bamboo leaves, the screen evokes a nocturnal landscape, where bamboos seem to spring up in the night and gleam under the moonlight.

The online sale will take place on May 26th.

Mayaro’s collection is available on The Invisible Collection.

Mayaro Editions

For their first series of pieces in the Craft Editions Collection, Mayaro partnered with designers Godefroy de Virieu and Stefania di Petrillo inspired by their sensibility to gestures and the emotion which lies within hand-crafted objects. At present, de Virieu is the AD of “Petit H” collection, by Hermès. Each piece is made-to-measure, and inspired by imaginary travels: a balloon in the sky, a trip to Saturn, a walk in a chestnut forest, a visit to a jeweller’s atelier… The signature style of this first edition is the mix of natural, almost raw materials such as wicker or chestnut wood, with leather and rusted metal: all elements that become even more beautiful with the patina of time.  Other statement pieces embody the know-how of cabinet maker IOTA Element, such as the Suspended bookcase which can hide or reveal a secret window, the delicate weavings of Frédérique Lamagnère, or the ethereal yet luxurious feather fans by Duvelleroy.
