Lady Of The Mountain

Stories News Lady Of The Mountain

She singlehandedly transformed the notion of chalet design into “Alpine Luxury”… Meet internationally acclaimed designer Nicky Dobree, who just joined The Invisible Collection to present a selection of ravishing pieces.

Nicky Dobree grew up in Paris and Vietnam. A true traveler at heart, she finds her inspirations from all corners of the globe. After studying French and Italian at Bristol University and a stint in publishing, she retrained in interior architecture and design at the London Design School. She then joined renowned interior design studio Taylor Howes before setting up her London based design practice in 2000. Since then her reputation has steadily grown establishing her as an international designer with clients across Europe and North America.

Her first international recognition came in 2003, with her first project “La Ferme de Moudon”, a six-bedroom chalet labeled “The finest winter house in the French Alps” by Tatler. True to her philosophy of honouring the soul of a building, Nicky has ensured that the traditional and authentic features of this eighteenth century farmhouse have been preserved, while adding all the true luxury elements of the dream resort, from sumptuous furnishing to cozy textures… and a stunning sauna too!

Over the years, her reputation as an outstanding luxury chalet designer has made her the go to person for discerning clients looking for the best one-of-kind chalet residencies, setting the trend for Alpine Luxury. She has designed and built in all the leading ski resorts including Whistler, Verbier, St Moritz, Gstaad, Crans Montana, Val D’Isère…. Her award winning interiors bear a strong sense of place where everything is harmonious and comfortable. Fusing modern lines with traditional vernacular, she introduces contemporary details to timeless effect. Ultimately, her designs have the hallmarks of classic timeless elegance and enduring comfort.

Her current residential projects include homes in the UK, Germany and South Africa, while also working on a luxury boutique hotel in Andalucía. Nicky has also developed a collection of her favorite items for the home – bed linen and throws and some cashmere garments- for Ferme de Moudon. Her impeccable taste and unparalleled creativity are now on display in her collection too, a ravishing, series of “alpine inspired” pieces of furniture originally designed for some of her outstanding chalets: their versatility and elegant shape, make them the perfect addition to any contemporary urban interior.
