The origin of the art of hand-knotting probably goes back to thousands of years ago in Central Asia. Names given to hand-knotted rugs usually come from the tribe or the place where they have been manufactured.

Amongst the great variety of existing techniques, Atelier Tortil’s workshops have perfected the various skills to master different kinds of knots. This extensive range of know-hows enables them to create exceptional bespoke pieces. Carried out by high-end skilled artisans, their hand-knotted rugs are woven on vertical looms with stretched threads mostly made of cotton. Their rugs can be made using various materials such as wool, cotton, linen, jute, silk, viscose and other fibres. In velvet cut, loop, flat, or shaved at different heights to give relief, they come in a large variety of weaving and finishes.

Atelier Tortil’s rugs are unique, custom-made pieces. All sizes, materials and colours are available upon request.
