Pedro Batista’s work is strongly influenced by what’s going on in his personal life. Each painting, despite appearing to be a “portrait of happiness”, is actually tinged with melancholy.
Pedro Batista developed an interest in painting from an early age. Yet, it was the urban culture and atmosphere of the 90’s that inspired him to pursue a career in the arts. Having honed his skills during a residency Program at the New York School of Visual Arts, the Lisbon-born artist moved to Berlin in 2010, for a six-month creative retreat to consolidate his passion for painting. These two experiences in such different contexts led him to rethink his working practice into a broader international scene. Recipient of the 2005 ‘’New Artist’’ award, Pedro has participated in several solo and collective exhibitions internationally, and his works are in many private collections.
