EDITOR’S NOTE

The White Porcelain Jug with Gold belongs to the same Écailles de Couleuvre series, its name borrowed from the scaled pattern of a grass snake and reimagined here with a luminous twist. Cast in white kaolin biscuit, the jug hides a striking surprise: an interior hand-painted in 24-karat gold.

Every drop poured from the jug briefly catches that hidden gold lining, turning a simple gesture into a small ceremony. Still an invitation to contemplation at heart, it remains a luxury item conceived for everyday use, its restraint on the outside only heightening the richness within.

As the heir to the best French taste (le Grand Goût) since 1789, Manufacture de Couleuvre carries on the tradition of the decorative arts. Symbolizing the art of living, the factory reissues iconic household designs, and offers creations and collaborations with contemporary artists. After 15 years working in the art and culture sector, Sophie Salager bought the Couleuvre factory with the ambition of flying the flag for French know-how. As an entrepreneur on a constant quest for beauty in ideas and objects since 2011, she now brilliantly orchestrates the production of the exceptional china that this unique factory has been making since 1789.
