EDITOR’S NOTE

These one-of-a-kind stools are an homage to ordinary crafts and traditional techniques carried throughout all our objects: ceramics, woodworking, and archival textiles. Inspired by Spolia’s design practice, the sculptural buttons on each stool take their shape from organic forms and fragments. the textiles were carefully selected from Spolia’s archive to best suit the materials surrounding them.
Each button is handcrafted in Greece by the most skilled ceramicists in a variety of glazes and shapes. This harmonious approach to the craft gives each stool a unique energy and perspective.

The Designer

SPOLIĀ New York

Having spent years in the high-end interior design industry, Spoliā’s founder Valerie Namé Bolaño is in constant pursuit of beautiful materials, and the transmission of exceptional savoir-faire – enabling the creation of functional, and elegant objects that stand the test of time. Spoliā’s exquisite fabrics are made using noble materials such as pure silk, cashmere, and wool - in all manner of sublime weaves and prints, woven with time-honored methods. The pieces are carefully made in New York city and Tbilisi, Georgia, by skilled artisans; the trims and buttons are custom handmade in France by a world-renowned art ceramist constantly experimenting with new techniques and sculptural forms.
