      EDITOR’S NOTE

The Coffee Saucer Blue completes the tableware collection by ceramicist Pascale Mestre, worked in mixed earthenware — terres mêlées — the layering of different clays that gives each piece its marbled depth. It is made in Provence using the traditional methods of Apt faience, a craft of glazed earthenware practiced in the town since the 18th century.

Its shallow, rounded form is designed to cradle the coffee cup from the same set, the blue glaze catching the clay’s subtle veining at the rim. Together, cup and saucer close out a full service that carries the Provençal art of living from the kitchen to the table.

      ABOUT THE DESIGNER
      The Designer

The workshop of ceramic artist Pascale Mestre is part of the history of Apt earthenware; known for its mixed and marbled earthenware...rare and precious expertise forged by a tradition dating back to the eighteenth century. Here, tradition and modernity are interwoven. Simple shapes and clean lines. In her workshop in Saint Saturnin les Apt, in the Luberon area of Provence, she creates tableware and decorative items. Earthenware is not just for the table: it graces tiled walls also. It offers a wide range of colours and can also create custom shades. Every object is unique because it has been skilfully crafted or decorated according to a traditional method that she masters brilliantly.
