EDITOR’S NOTE

The Donatello Glass is mouth-blown by artisans in India who create these intricate paisley shapes in Turquoise, Saphire, and Ruby jewel tones. Set of Six.

The D’Ascoli x Cabana Trompe L’Oeil collection is inspired by Renzo Mongiardino and the home he created in Milan for the mother of Cabana founder Martina Mondadori. The Master adored “trompe l’oeil,” the visual technique of fooling the eye with decorative painting that creates the illusion of different materials. Two themes Mongiardino returned to again and again were Marquetry – inlaid wood veneers, and Pietra Dura – inlaid stones. For Cabana, D’Ascoli has created a sumptuous layering of faux bois marquetry and faux marbre pietra dura effects printed on linen and on hand-spun, hand-woven cotton with hand embroidery.

Casa Cabana

Raised in Milan, in an environment where art and design were highly valued, Martina Mondadori’s childhood home was designed by Renzo Mongiardino, growing up surrounded by warm colours and striking combinations of texture and pattern. Travelling widely with her family, she was exposed to the design traditions of many cultures: This love of travel and discovery have never left her. Collecting pieces that speak to her and of the artists and makers who created them, Martina has deep respect for craftsmanship and authenticity in design, something that is key to her work at Cabana, and Cabana Magazine, which she founded in 2014 as an innovative yet timeless way to look at interiors.
