10 Mid-Century Scandinavian Gems for the Living Room

Stories Editor's Pick 10 Mid-Century Scandinavian Gems for the Living Room

Scandi-style designs have never been in higher demand: discover our exclusive selection of heirloom-quality pieces that collectors love.

They stand out from the ordinary, breaking sales records in the auction market and telling a story in ultra-stylish homes: mid-century Scandinavian designs are a collector’s best friend. Working closely with Norki, we have selected some beautiful vintage pieces full of personality and history that will inject a cool coziness into your decor. The curated selection, available exclusively through us, was carefully sourced by Norki—the world-renowned specialist of bespoke hides, skins, and furs for interior decoration. Norki’s founders, Sonia and Thierry Linard, regularly unearth beautiful pieces that are then enlivened and re-upholstered with the best materials: shearling, leather, and fur. Skilled artisans ensure that each piece is in mint condition and then artfully reupholster it, preserving the essence of each designer’s vision.

Highlights from the collection include some mid-century treasures, luckily available in pairs. We love the iconic Impala lounge chairs originally designed by Gillis Lundgren for Ikea, and we can never get enough of the unmistakable Boet easy chairs by Otto Schulz—true keepers if you are lucky enough to acquire them. The same sentiment applies to the Laila armchairs by Ilmari Lappalainen, so inviting with their cozy charm!

Speaking of easy chairs that stand out, we’ve selected a pair of ‘USA 75’ designed by Folke Ohlsson in the 1950s and a pair of ‘Ingrid’ by Bruno Mathsson, the famed Swedish architect whose designs were already exhibited at MoMA in the early 40s. Another museum-worthy design is the iconic model 263 Orchid swivel chair by Aage Egeriis, available in creamy-colored shearling that gives the piece its warmly chic quality. For the ultimate feeling of snugness, we recommend the ‘Siesta’ armchair with footstool designed by Svante Skogh in the 1950s and reupholstered in sand-colored curly shearling.
