Our Rug Specialist: Emmanuelle Payard
Finding the perfect bespoke rug has never been easy. Some may find customization intimidating, if not too complex: how to convey a desire that is still just an idea? How to put into words subtle nuances of color and texture? How to create an imaginary landscape? Because ultimately, that’s what a rug is: a unique, inviting landscape seamlessly woven into the décor. Our team of experts at Invisible Collection can assist you in bringing to life the rug of your dreams, no matter the size, shape, palette, or texture. Working with the world’s most renowned ateliers and rug-makers, we offer truly exceptional customization services. For very special projects, our rug specialist Emmanuelle Payard personally oversees each creation, ensuring it is brought to perfect completion.

Background

At Invisible Collection, Emmanuelle Payard is known as the rug whisperer — thanks to her exceptional, almost instinctive ability to understand the essence of a project and deliver the perfect rug (or rugs) for it. But it’s more than just instinct: her incredible artistic flair is matched by equally impressive expertise and mastery of every rug-making technique known to humankind. Trained at two prestigious schools of applied arts in Paris — Duperré and ENSCI — Emma learned all the secrets of textile design, from drawing and coloring to weaving, including hand tuft and hand knotted, and loom techniques. Today, with her 20-year-exeperience, she is one of the most distinguished rug specialists in Europe, sought after by Dior, and a select group of private clients.

Services

What sets her apart is that she is both designer and artisan: she can create the most original drawing and, at the same time, mastermind its exact crafting. There’s more to it than simply overseeing the manufacturing process. Informed by her deep knowledge and experience, Emma instinctively knows the type of yarn and rug-making method best suited to any distinct project. In layman’s terms: the shape and pattern of a rug — as well as its purpose and placement in a space — determine the material, the type of yarn (wool, silk, jute, felted, outdoor yarns,…), and the technique (woven, hand-tufted, hand-knotted…). To fully grasp the leadership and creative role, think of the Première d’atelier in a couture house: the person who has a special relationship with the couturier, built on trust, precision, and mutual understanding — translating ideas into reality, from a simple sketch to a breathtaking couture gown. Considering the bespoke level of service and creativity at Invisible Collection, Emma fits right in, adding to our team of experts and bringing her uncommon magic to the homes of collectors and design enthusiasts.
