Background
Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a French designer who explores a wide range of disciplines and materials, which merge into a distinctive body of work. Born in the south of France in 1974, he followed in his father’s footsteps, by studying sculpture at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d’art, then earning his design diploma at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. In addition to his spectacular private and commercial projects –including an iconic chalet in the Alps – Noé creates exceptional pieces of furniture in very limited editions. After discovering the breathtaking landscapes of Portugal and the country’s rich craft traditions, he has launched Made In Situ, a design studio that pays tribute to Portuguese storied artistry.
Signature style
Driven by his strong feeling for materials, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance draws his inspiration from nature: organic shapes and their irregularities are transcended and rendered into fantastic pieces of furniture. Each design is defined by resolutely modern, fluid lines and organic shapes of striking beauty. Exceptionally handcrafted by skilled artisans, the furniture pieces strike the perfect balance between contrasting materials, embodying Noé’s distinctive, sophisticated aesthetic.
Showstoppers
Whisper, a collection of seating defined by generous, curvaceous forms, is a tribute to the undulating landscapes covered in snow. The Mineral Flower line of tables hand-sculpted out of a single bloc of stone: like gems unearthed from the belly of mother earth.
