The Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has been weaving rugs in its Burgundy workshops since 1958, building a reputation among the world’s most demanding interior architects for its command of hand-knotting, hand-weaving and hand-tufting alike. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant distinction for living heritage, its artisans transform wool, silk, bamboo and raffia into rugs whose textures and patterns keep the visible imprint of the human hand.
Designed by Terence Mesguich of TMJ Design Studio — the Paris agency he founded in 2011 after years developing collections alongside Romeo Sozzi at Promemoria — the Guilin Round Rug takes its name from the karst landscapes of southern China, its cut and loop pile in 80% wool and 20% pure silk in tones of beige, bronze and grey. Hand-tufted for the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne and pictured here in a project by Rebecca James Studio, photographed by Richard Gooding, the round format lets the textured pattern radiate outward like the misted peaks that inspired it.
