The Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has been weaving rugs in its Burgundy workshops since 1958, building a reputation among the world’s most demanding interior architects for its command of hand-knotting, hand-weaving and hand-tufting alike. Awarded the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant distinction for living heritage, its artisans transform wool, silk, bamboo and raffia into rugs whose textures and patterns keep the visible imprint of the human hand.
Designed by Léo Sentou for the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne, the Etienne Rug carries the same ‘contemporary classicist’ spirit the London-based, French-trained designer brings to his handmade furniture, itself a tribute to the refinement of late-eighteenth-century French pieces. Hand-tufted with a wool ground and a silk pattern in beige and white, the rug balances rigour and whimsy in equal measure, its restrained palette letting the interplay of matte wool and lustrous silk carry the design’s quiet sense of history.
