Since 1958, the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has worked from its ateliers in Moroges, at the heart of Burgundy, where hand-knotting and hand-tufting are practiced as living crafts rather than industrial processes. Recognised as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, the manufacture has lent its rare know-how to designers from Andrée Putman to Philippe Starck, weaving each rug thread by thread with the patience of a discipline passed down through generations of artisans.

The December edition of À La Française imagines the same Studioparisien garden stripped bare by winter, its topiary tassels and looped velvet textures now reading as bare branches rather than summer abundance. Hand-tufted in wool and silk by the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne, the design lets Laurène B. Tardrew and Romain Jourdan — known for Cartier and Hermès retail scenography — prove that their graphic play of classicism and contemporary wit can carry a whole season’s change within a single, unchanging pattern.

Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
