Each box is built up in lacquer through repeated thin coats, sanded back and recoated until the surface reaches that dense, glass-like depth lacquer is known for, then finished with a final hand-buffed sheen. Droulers pairs the box with a cabochon in a contrasting hue, aubergine against turquoise, brick red against coral, ivory against tiger’s eye, so the two elements read as a considered colour study rather than a simple decoration. Because the palette runs across saturated jewel tones and deeper charcoal and ink shades, the piece can anchor a room’s colour scheme or simply hold its own on a console or bar. As with the metal editions, the stone is set in a bezel mount, keeping the focus on the interplay between a hard lacquered surface and the softer, cloudier resin at its centre.
