Since the seventeenth century, the Mobilier National has served as the guardian of France’s decorative arts heritage, commissioning and preserving furniture for the French Republic’s most prestigious residences and embassies. In recent years the institution has opened its collections to a new generation of makers, selecting only a handful of contemporary designers each year whose work is judged worthy of entering the nation’s permanent patrimony, alongside centuries of royal and republican craftsmanship.

Sabourin Costes, the Paris studio founded by Design Academy Eindhoven graduates Zoë Costes and Paola Sabourin, builds its work around materials that bend, reflect and distort light, drawing on experience gained at Hermès, Ligne Roset and Chanel. Their Boudins Coffee Table pairs cast resin with smoky-toned glass legs in a polished finish, the rounded, sausage-like forms that give the piece its name catching and refracting light through the tinted glass at every angle.
