Background
Julien Gorrias, a graduate of Ensci – Les Ateliers school, is an actor specializing in commedia dell’arte and the craft of leather mask making. While involved in puppetry and scenography, he devoted most of his time to researching humanoid robotics. In 2020, he founded Carbone 14 studio, largely inspired by the artist’s book “Eloge du temps qui passe.”
Signature Style
Julien has a straightforward approach to design, prioritizing practicality over aesthetics. He firmly believes that function should take precedence over form in design.
Showstoppers
“La chaise qui cache la forêt” (Robin Hood), Torii, and “La lampe qui va de soie” are three manifest objects that embody Julien’s concept of positive design. Specifically, these objects are designed in consideration of the time during which they will be used, demonstrating three different temporalities in the object.
