Background
Orré Studio was founded by Sarah Renard and Jules Oriol. Sarah Renard has a background in woodworking, while Jules Oriol comes from the world of artistic and decorative painting. Both share a passion for decorative arts and design, particularly ceramic objects. They initially specialized in tile design, using techniques dating from the 1880s to the 1920s that were developed for the German Jugendstil movement. Working with hand-carved molds, they create a raised topography that gives each tile a distinctive three-dimensional quality. After reproducing traditional historic tiles to master the technique, they quickly moved on to developing their own contemporary designs. In 2022, Sarah Renard and Jules Oriol expanded their practice beyond ceramics to create objects that combine different materials. They began designing and crafting mirrors that resemble sculptures, where the reflective surface is subtle and secondary to the overall form.
Signature Style
Orré Studio’s work draws inspiration from architecture and designers such as Athos Bulcão and Gio Ponti. With a minimal colour palette, Orré Studio’s mirrors create the impression of monolithic pieces, where different materials appear to merge seamlessly into a single form.
Showstoppers
Among the studio’s most notable pieces are the Mandel, celebrated for its simplicity and organic shapes, and the GIO I, a tribute to Gio Ponti.
