Background
Pierre Yovanovitch began his practice in 2001, after a career in menswear design for Pierre Cardin, a professional experience that led him to hone in on his passion for interior architecture. Based in Paris, France, with an office in New York City, Pierre now leads a team of over 40 employees. As founder and Principal of his interior architecture studio, Yovanovitch has received international acclaim for his work encompassing private residences, retail and hospitality spaces around the globe, as well as set design for notable exhibitions.
Signature Style
Known for his mastery of volume and space, Yovanovitch creates unique interiors that are always adapted to the genius loci, as well as to the client’s personality and lifestyle. Favouring noble materials – precious woods, stone, marble and metal – he transforms the space into a visually powerful example of elegant harmony.
The collaboration with contemporary artists and Europe’s most renowned craftsmen lies at the core of his projects. As an avid contemporary art collector himself, he works closely with a roster of renowned artists in the likes of Daniel Buren, Ugo Rondinone, James Turrell, Tadashi Kawamata and Klara Kristalova, to name but a few, and creates site-specific works that become instant conversation projects. Art is an integral component of his approach to interior decoration, and is the backbone of his interiors. Yovanovitch is equally known for his ability to seamlessly merge contemporary and vintage, and works regularly with distinguished contemporary art, antiques, and design galleries to incorporate vintage elements in his spaces; he is particularly fond of classic Scandinavian and American designs from the1930s to the 1960s (Frits Henningsen, Axel Einar Hjorth, Paavo Tynell, Flemming Lassen, PaulLaszlo, Paul Frankl, Terrence Harold Robsjohn-Gibbings, James Mont, Harvey Probber, …).
Showstoppers
The Asymétrie armchair, the Papa Bear series – which inspired the inception of our platform -, the Oops chairs collection… Each of his iconic, custom pieces is a celebration of understated elegance and unparalleled craft. Yovanovitch enlists Europe’s finest woodworkers, ceramists, glass blowers and textile artisans for his projects, furniture and lighting fixtures. A beautiful book, edited by Rizzoli, celebrates Pierre’s most notable projects, including his first one in New York, a remarkable apartment commissioned by one of our founders.
