Background

Wartel is all about family, literally. Jean-Baptiste, Fanette, and Bertrand Wartel are siblings who decided to work as a family, combining their distinct know-hows. In perpetual exchange of ideas, their creative process aims to fuse deep-rooted inspirations, dreams, fantasies, and innovative technical challenges, aiming to deliver singular, strong objects that stand out in any décor. Jean-Baptiste Wartel, designer & artistic director, began his career as a musician-composer-sound designer, multiplying musical and cinematographic projects before devoting himself fully to graphic arts and object design. He is involved as much in the initial conceptualisation as in the combination of materials and finishes. Fanette Wartel is a young cabinetmaker who graduated from the Ecole Boulle in Paris. After a career in antique furniture restoration, she turned to creating sculptures and conceptual pieces in wood, drawing inspiration from techniques found in other parts of the world. Bertrand Wartel, first a wrought-iron worker and then a metal construction engineer, puts his technical know-how at the service of their creations. L’Observateur du Design Prize winner and holder of several patents, he finds inspiration in the great names of design and architecture, such as Santiago Calatrava, Marcel Breuer, and Jean Prouvé, all of whom placed research and technical rigor at the heart of their work.

Signature Style

Driven by a distinct sculptural vision of light, the three designers like to free themselves from the classic codes of base and lampshade. Passionate about ancient architecture and old civilizations, they aim to tap into this heritage by creating something new with rare materials and finishes.

Showstoppers

Several collections, including Lagos, Arcades, or Pizzicato, strongly characterise Wartel’s style and know-how.
