Stories Exhibitions Invisible Collection x London Craft Week

Celebrating the city’s festival of savoir-faire, we present ‘Resilient Clay’, a group exhibition of acclaimed contemporary ceramicists from Athens.

To mark the 2023 edition of London Craft Week, Invisible Collection partners with  rossogranada to showcase the unique work of contemporary ceramicists from Athens. ‘Resilient Clay’ will feature designs from a select group of ceramic artists both established and emerging, whose work has never yet been shown in London. With both decorative and functional handcrafted pieces on show, each item has been commissioned specifically for this exhibit, with participating ceramicists including Iasonas Damianós, Maria Economides, Athena Kontonikolaki, Maru Meleniou, Kallia Panopoulou, Myrto Papadopoulou, Yiorgos Trichas and Melina Xenaki.

Rossogranada art angels, a Swiss art catalyser dedicated to supporting artists, practises and institutions around the world, shares with Invisible Collection a strong passion for superior craftsmanship and talent.

“We believe in the importance of promoting a distinct aesthetic idea of contemporary design whilst shining a light on heritage crafts and savoir faire. With this in mind, we are delighted to be partnering with rossogranada to showcase a selection of pieces by contemporary Athenian ceramicists whose inspiration draws upon such deep heritage and ancestry dating back to 6th century BC, when the extraordinary Attic Vases first came to life.” – says Laetitia Contat Desfontaines, our Global Head of Development, who made this exhibition possible.

Athens has long held a significant historic link to pottery traditions that emerged centuries ago. This exhibition aims to bring to the forefront of modern craft, a niche, thriving and fresh scene of ceramics that springs from a localized Greek tradition going back to over two millennia. The ceramicists on show represent a rising generation of independent makers who have been inspired by cross pollinating heritage with contemporary global trends.

‘Resilient Clay’ will be on display at the Mews House, Invisible Collection’s flagship in Marylebone, until the 29th of May. Marking the opening of the exhibition and in celebration of London Craft Week, rossogranada and Invisible Collection will also host a talk entitled “The New Athenians: the rise of contemporary ceramics.” For interest in attendance please RSVP to [email protected]
