Each Gounot & Jähnke fixture is conceived as a small machine for light: aluminium, brass and bronze are milled, hand-finished and articulated so that illumination becomes a considered, almost architectural gesture, work that has drawn collaborations with Joseph Dirand, Glenn Sestig and reissues of Pierre Paulin.
The Marienbad L Floor Reading Lamp brings the collection’s cinematic name down to floor level, its articulated aluminium and brass structure rising beside an armchair like a slender companion built purely for the task of reading. Gounot and Jähnke designed the articulation so the light can be pulled close to a page and pushed away again without disturbing the room’s larger composition.
Finished in mirror nickel or gun metal, the lamp shares the family’s love of precise vertical lines while adding the practical intelligence of a task light: a beam that can be aimed, not just switched on. It is the floor-standing counterpart to the Marienbad wall lamps, proof that the same engineered vocabulary can serve both ambient and functional light.
Wonderfully combining magic, technology and architecture, Gounot and Jähnke are inspired by light; they masterfully merge the Parisian tradition of craftsmanship with the latest LED light technologies. The clean lines of their designs conjure timeless geometries – cubes, tubes and circles – that encompass most styles, from classic to edgy. The assemblage details, metal finishes and lighting performance of each design are of the highest level.
