When Vincent Darre was given carte blanche to redesign a historic jazz club in the Left Bank of Paris few predicted the fabulous hotspot that would emerge. Now one of the most sought after boutique hotel locations in the city, Le Montana is now home to six suites along with a restaurant and rooftop bar.
The striking black façade gives nothing away. Once inside Darre’s eccentric design instantly transports guests from the familiar cityscape outside to a fantastical world of reimagined Surrealist-inspired scenes.
After being welcomed into the ground floor bar with its dark botanical wallpaper and luxurious blue velvet sofas, the six unique suites are accessed by an exclusive lift. Opening onto narrow corridors, the interiors signature bold carpets and wallpapers from Hermes and Maison Darre give a sense of what is to come.
The suites are designed to create impact. Quirky flea market purchases and hand-painted Cubist-style fresques with beautifully outrageous combinations of texture, pattern and colour showcase the eclectic nature of Darre’s designs. Each spacious room has a different shape and is offset with a black tiled bathroom.
Even taking into consideration the many opportunities for dining in the area, guests will do well to stay in the hotel and enjoy the first floor restaurant, La Gauche Caviar. Be sure to enjoy the Salmon or Petrossian Caviar the Russian way, off the back of one’s hand and washed down with vodka or bubbles.
After dinner, retire to the rooftop where decadent black marble tables fill a heated terrace and offer a wonderful view over the city.
