Pierre Yovanovitch, the master of contemporary elegance, delivers a new series of covetable designs.
“I think people are concerned with owning beautiful objects – not something that will be thrown away in two years but will be with them for a lifetime,” says Pierre Yovanovitch to Jackie Daly who interviewed him for the Financial Times on the eve of launching his new furnishings. These few words sum up the French designer’s ethos and our own, as we strive to offer the most beautiful, exquisitely handcrafted furnishings, designed to be cherished and collected.
We are delighted to present a curated selection of new designs by Pierre Yovanovitch that further reveal the designer’s unparalleled vision of understated chic. Since the opening of his studio in 2001, the French interior-architect has cemented his status as one of his generation’s most celebrated talents, creating riveting interiors for an international clientele including Christian Louboutin, the Pinault family, and top contemporary-art collectors. Known for his signature haute-couture aesthetic, and his unique vision of space and colour, his name is regularly on the AD 100 list.
The new collection of furnishings is “A dialogue between architecture, art and design, a confluence of influences,” says Yovanovitch, adding “these designs unveil my passion for craftsmanship, for traditional and innovative techniques, for the visible and invisible, for natural materials.”
The designs we selected include a new version of his signature Asymmetry Armchair, presented in slightly larger dimensions under the title Asymmetry M. The sculptural, carved-rock-like shape is the same but with a proportionally wider feel. The armchair is now paired with two brand new, covetable pieces: the Asymmetry Sofa and the Asymmetry Ottoman. These alluring furnishings feature the same seamless, innovative shape as the armchair and are upholstered with a beautiful custom fabric.
“A minimum of lines and views can be enough to construct a space. In this case, minimalism is a way to avoid lying, first to oneself and then to others.” explains Yovanovitch when referring to the understated theatricality of his interiors. We handpicked one more piece from his collection of furnishings, the gorgeously designed Rainbow Sofa. This dramatic piece in hand-planed natural solid oak is expected to take centre stage in many homes.
“Creating is for me more than a reflex, it is necessary.” concludes Pierre Yovanovitch: We are grateful that he made a virtue of necessity, and graced us with his otherworldly designs.
