Stories News Objekti

London-based Objekti joins The Invisible Collection with a gorgeous series of one-of-a-kind ceramics made in Mexico. It’s high time that high-end accessories took center stage!

We are delighted to introduce Objekti, the brainchild of Miriam Frowein and Benjamin Frowein, siblings-in-law and kindred spirits when it comes to beautiful artworks. Objekti was born out of their discovery of unique pine-shaped objects made by some of Mexico’s most celebrated artisans.

Created out of local clay, these whimsical pieces are made by hand following ancient pottery techniques and know-how dating back to the Pre-Columbian period. Inspired by the pine – a symbol of goodwill in Mexico – each piece features elaborate details of incision, appliqué – necessary to perfecting texture- and openwork. The piece is then coloured through a very delicate process of mixing glazes with copper sulphate and other minerals followed by multiple firings to create unique, shining hues.

Each pine is a collectable work of art in and of itself, exquisitely made by hand. The collection features some outstanding pieces including the Blue Porcupine – its vessel has over 500 spikes added one-by-one and the lead is covered with 27 handmade cones…

Summer travelling notwithstanding, we reached out to Miriam and Benjamin, and asked them a few questions:

What drew you to interior architecture and design and what do you like the most about it?

We both have always been intrigued by the power of interior design and how spaces shape the way we live our lives and experience our surrounding. Hence, Miriam started her own international interior firm ‘Miriam Frowein Interiors’ based in London and Benjamin became President of the iconic design brand ‘Schumacher’.

By founding Objekti early 2021, we aimed at filling a gap we kept experiencing when searching for high-end accessories.

Can you describe your work and style in a few words?

We see ourselves as curators of elegant, timeless and most importantly unpredictable homes. Due to our deep knowledge of contemporary art, collectable furniture and various cultural experiences from our endless travels (obviously before COVID!), we both create unique and informed homes and objects.

The piece of furniture you most like to design?

There is so much we would like to design eventually. We obviously started with our Objekti ceramics which tell a very authentic and meaningful story from another part of the world. Accessories are in our eyes often underestimated by designers and homeowners.
For us they give every space the important finishing touch; the icing on the cake which is the reason why we are truly passionate about Objekti.

The most useful piece of design related advice you’ve received and would like to pass on?

Never compromise on craftsmanship because you will live with it every day and for a long time. Spend real time understanding how the client intends to live, only then will you be able to design their perfect home.

What do you like about The Invisible Collection?

The Invisible collection brings together what every designer can possibly dream of. There is no other company that curates in such tasteful and unique way their portfolio. Every of their represented brand has a unique story to tell, wonderful pieces and the most amazing quality and craftsmanship to offer.

Which piece of furniture, available on The Invisible Collection, do you like the most?

That’s such a tricky question! We have an endless list of pieces we love from The Invisible Collection. But if you make us choose, we adore the various resin stools by Galerie Jag for their versatility and for being the perfect base for our Objekti vessels.

Objekti

Objekti is the brainchild of Miriam Frowein and Benjamin Frowein, siblings-in-law with a shared passion for beauty and elegance. Miriam is the principle of Miriam Frowein Interiors, a London-based studio focusing on international, high-end residential projects. Benjamin is the President of American design brand Schumacher. During a trip to Mexico, they discovered the ancient tradition of ceramic art and pottery crafts dating back to the Pre-Columbian period. They fell in love with the pines – unique pieces that symbolize goodwill in Mexico- and decided to launch Objekti.
