Brazilian designer Gustavo Neves, raised in Jaú watching his grandfather hand-carve stringed instruments, works wood, bronze and stone with minimal intervention, preferring to reveal a material’s raw form rather than refine it away. He invented ‘cast wood,’ a technique of pressing metal directly onto timber to draw out its grain as texture.

The Sumé dining table is built using Neves’s own ‘cast wood’ technique, pressing metal directly onto the timber to draw out its natural grain in bronze.
