The assignment here was to eliminate what did not have its place in this poetic and highly eccentric flat overlooking a garden square. The intervention was major, but surgical and respectful of Chareau’s magically evocative ideas and uniqueness. The desk design is a ‘clin d’oeil’ to the architect, and also to Palladio whose San Giorgio Maggiore, the owners favourite church, is printed on the surface. The wood used is a precious rosewood, a Chareau favourite, and the top is interchangeable with any image requested – as long as it is aesthetically pleasing….
