The first Galerie Maeght opened in Cannes in 1936, and then expanded with a new space in Paris ten years later. The name Maeght – from Aimé Maeght, brilliant patron of the arts, collector and founder– is forever linked to some of the greatest artists of the twentieth century: Braque, Matisse, Léger, Miró, Tàpies Chagall, Kandinsky, Kelly, Calder, and Giacometti, to name but a few.
