Behind these lovely table linens, there is a beautiful story of tradition and empowerment, thanks to Malaika, a brand based in Egypt, which focuses on teaching hand embroidery to local women, enabling them to learn a valuable skill and improve their economic standing.
Although hand-embroidery has a long tradition in Egypt, modern manufacturing processes have led to its decline. Motivated by a desire to resurrect this age-old art and provide a sustainable income for underprivileged women, Malaika opened its own embroidery school in the heart of Cairo. Women go there to learn the art of embroidery and once they are proficient, they can work from home or at the brand’s factory.
Woven from the finest Egyptian cotton and linen, these sets of placemats and napkins are beautifully adorned with delicate embroideries, inspired by Egyptian history and culture.
The placemats feature an evocative floral style, the ottoman carnation available in two colours: rosewood and amber. The handmade napkins are embellished by a cross-stitched border and can be monogrammed.
The beautiful texture and the delicate embroideries lend the collection a chic quality that elevates even the simplest luncheon table setting. Pair them in different colours and shop them now on The Invisible Collection.
