Stories Editor's Pick Tatiana de Nicolay x Jaipur Rugs

At home with Tatiana de Nicolay: Take a tour of her Parisian apartment in our exclusive video, and discover Gardens of the World, her new rug collection inspired by botanical marvels from around the globe.

What if a rug could transform a room into a haven of natural beauty and artistic elegance? Gardens of the World by Tatiana de Nicolay x Jaipur Rugs turns that “if” into a certainty. Watch this exclusive video, shot in Tatiana’s marvelous Parisian apartment, and get transported into a vibrant world where grey is simply not an option…  Inspired by the marvelous Albert Kahn Parisian Garden, the collection features seven rugs, each representing a different garden, envisioned as an invitation to step into an imaginary world of exotic plants, lush forests, and romantic meadows. A testament to Tatiana’s visionary artistry and Jaipur Rugs’ commitment to craftsmanship, each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master the ancestral techniques of hand-knotting, hand-tufting, flat weaving, and hand-looming. Founded in 1978, Jaipur Rugs is a family-owned company with a proud history of promoting and preserving traditional craftsmanship while also embracing innovation and modern design. By prioritizing the human aspect, Jaipur Rugs has become India’s largest network of artisans, showcasing ancestral crafts with a fresh vision. The story of the Gardens of the World collection is one of friendship and shared passion for exceptional savoir-faire.

When Tatiana decided to create an original collection of designs with Jaipur Rugs, she introduced the idea to her friend Isabelle Dubern-Mallevays, co-founder of Invisible Collection and a great admirer of karigari, the Indian word for the highest form of craftsmanship and traditional techniques passed down through generations. This conversation led to an exciting collaboration, with Invisible Collection presenting the seven beautiful rugs from the Gardens of the World collection in its galleries and through its platform. The seven-piece collection includes the poetic Tea Pavilion Rug, inspired by the dreamlike images of a Japanese tea garden; the romantic Flower Meadow Rug, a subtle ode to an English garden, defined by an abundance of colorful flowers; and the vibrant Snake Song Rug, a fantastic design featuring ficus and Bermuda palm trees, pepper vines, and undergrowth herbs… one can almost hear the melodious sounds of a Quetzal or the hiss of a tropical snake in this imaginary jungle!
First unveiled during Paris Design Week as part of Invisible Collection’s exhibition Making Memories, each design from Gardens of the World can be customized to specific dimensions. Discover the entire collection, available for purchase exclusively through Invisible Collection in the UK and the US.
