Stories Exhibitions The White Writings Collection by Dedar

The beloved textile manufacturer explores all the shades of white with a new, elegant collection unveiled during Paris Design Week. Follow the thread, and discover the transformative power of these exceptional fabrics when matched with our iconic designs.

Italy has a longstanding tradition of textile manufacturing, preserving weaving techniques passed down through generations and creating fantastic fabrics inspired by an aesthetic sui generis. Among the companies that carry this legacy, Dedar stands out, and we are delighted to collaborate with them. Based on the idyllic shores of Lake Como, Dedar was founded by Elda and Nicola Fabrizio in 1976. The family-run brand works with the best artisans and textile specialists to create cutting-edge contemporary collections for the home, including curtains and wall coverings. Now, with a new generation of Fabrizios at the helm, siblings Caterina and Raffaele, Dedar is at the forefront of fiber technology research and responsible practices, integrating sustainability into all aspects of their operations.

Our collaboration with the Italian brand began with “Dressed in Dedar”, a beautiful exhibition highlighting the transformative power of their exceptional fabrics when matched with our iconic designs. For the 2024 edition of Paris Design Week, we renewed the collaboration presenting new furniture pieces dressed in Dedar alongside a lovely installation set against the magical backdrop of Féau Boiseries. Titled Fil Blanc  – a word play inspired by the notion of fil rouge, which roughly translates as follow the thread – Dedar created a Daedalus-inspired interplay of threads and fabrics running through the labyrinthine salons of Féau. “Fil Blanc is an installation made out of 500 meters of thread done with seven of the fabrics of our Dedar White Writings collection,” says Raffaele Fabrizio. “The work that inspired it was the Maria Lai’s Legarsi alla Montagna, a monumental installation she created in 1981.

I’ve always been fascinated by the images of that performance-cum-installation where you see mile-long threads of fabric connecting the houses and the mountain of the village where she was born.”The inspiration from famed Italian artist Maria Lai epitomizes how, at Dedar, creation is always informed by the artistic landscape. “Fil Blanc and the White Writings Collection is about the way Dedar approaches the artists, the masters of modern art like Jean Arpe, Monet and Mondrian,” adds Raffaele. The Fil Blanc installation is made of threads from the new White Writings Collection, seven fabrics in different shades of white where the diverse use of fibers makes the pattern. The wool, silk or linen are used each one in its own proper and unique different shade of white. “The collection embodies a sense and an ideal of elegance and things well done,” says Raffaele.
