When The Surrey underwent its remarkable renovation, it was whispered that the inspiration was “a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations.” With this spirit in mind, Invisible Collection’s contemporary furniture, decorating the Surrey’s storied rooms, is designed to be cherished, collected, and passed on. Here’s a sneak peek at the beautiful interiors of the Surrey Penthouse and some background on the project. Despite a fluctuating market and a slight decline in sales—as reported by The Wall Street Journal—luxury real estate can still thrive when it comes to the right product at the right time. The Surrey Penthouse ticks all the boxes and is now up for sale through the expert team at Douglas Elliman. Priced at $50 million, the 5,200-square-foot duplex penthouse has three bedrooms, gorgeous living areas, a grand dining room, and three terraces. At Invisible Collection, we have a special connection with this outstanding property, as we were invited to be part of the project by providing our bespoke furniture.
A bit of backstory: The Surrey Hotel was acquired by Reuben Brothers—a UK-based, family-run investment company—and transformed into a new luxury hotel managed by Corinthia. The renovation was led by design icons Martin Brudnizki and Michele Bonan, who lent their signature style to the rooms and reception areas. As is often the case in luxury hotels from the past, The Surrey also features private apartments on its upper floors: the Surrey Residences. This is where Invisible Collection brought its signature French aesthetic, under the expert direction of Creative Director Jordana Reuben Yechiel. “We wanted The Surrey to be a creative hub for art and design, so a partnership with Invisible Collection was inevitable. Like The Surrey, we showcase the best of design and create a space for artists to present their finest work.
Martin Brudnizki and Michele Bonan came together to make the hotel experience elevated, residential, timeless, and a work of art. The Surrey Residences followed suit, and together with Invisible Collection, we reimagined Upper East Side living—elegant, substantial design pieces for practical living and entertaining in the city. Each apartment comes with an interior design package curated by Invisible Collection. We did the hard work for you.”
This is arguably an unprecedented collaboration, offering a true creative service that brings soulful sophistication to brand-new interiors. “This partnership with the Surrey Residences and working hand-in-hand with Jordana Reuben feels like the continuation of a conversation started by the great masters of interior decoration a century ago. Bringing our distinct French aesthetic, we curated the penthouse with iconic designs that assert a sophisticated point of view, selected as quintessential elements defining the space. Inspired by the ineffable Jean-Michel Frank, the decorating scheme follows one strong idea. In Frank’s words: “the simplest possible design finished in the most refined, luxurious materials to give it great elegance.”
