With the Cottage collection, Pinto Paris revisits a country furniture in turned wood and woven geometric reed accents which could be found on a terrace, by the fire, equally at home at the edge of the sea, in a mountain chalet or a lodge…
The inspiration is the vernacular rural furniture that was ennobled in the nineteenth century by the spirit of The Art and Crafts movement: simplicity of forms and materials, aestheticisation and stylisation of humble taste and valorisation of the unique work by hand. Although inspired, this collection stands out in the treatment of turned wood: we are closer to an Africanist aesthetic and the sculptural language of Brancusi: a series of cores and repeated edges. The sturdy, powerful oak with its open pores and vibrating grain, is still evident in the dark hue. (This collection, presented in black to affirm the graphical form could be also considered in natural oak.)
