Francesco Balzano designs the way an architect thinks: in volumes, thresholds and light. Named among AD France’s 100 Best Designers and winner of the Villa Medici Prize from the French Academy in Rome, the Paris-based designer draws on a childhood spent between Venice, Rome and Florence to give his furniture, produced through SATTIO Studio, the weight and calm of monuments rather than mere objects.
In its translucent form, signed and numbered in colourway FB20/04-E, the Murano table lets an entire room’s light travel through its resin top, softened to the hazy clarity of glass shaped by centuries of lagoon water. Rather than a hard, reflective surface, Balzano gives the table a glow that seems to come from within the material itself, a quiet nod to the Venetian glassmakers who first inspired the collection.
