Background

Raised in Milan, in an environment where art and design were highly valued, Martina Mondadori’s childhood home was designed by Renzo Mongiardino, growing up surrounded by warm colours and striking combinations of texture and pattern. Travelling widely with her family, she was exposed to the design traditions of many cultures: This love of travel and discovery have never left her. Respect for craftsmanship and authenticity in design has played an important role in her life, and it’s key to her work at Cabana.

Signature style

Rich textures and warm colours, layered to create rooms that are cosy, comfortable, and personal – and allowed to develop over time.

Showstoppers

Whenever she travels, she loves to collect objects and artefacts from her trips, pieces that speak to her and of the artists and makers who created them. Martina feels that the best collections are made over many years, developed through traveling and hours of sourcing. It’s a conscious considered process, which she has continued at Cabana, and Cabana Magazine, which she founded in 2014 as an innovative yet timeless way to look at interiors and to be inspired by them. It is a biannual publication in English distributed worldwide, based in London and printed in Italy. Thanks to its unique printing techniques, fabric covers and view on interiors it is perceived as a real collectors’ good, with each issue being a small piece of the collection. From the simplest object to the rarest collectible, from a rural hut to a cosmopolitan dwelling, Cabana explores the intellectual and emotional intimacy that people have with buildings and their surroundings, also celebrating the passion and endurance of artisanal creations. Cabana has gathered around the magazine a group of international, like-minded contributors and aficionados. Amongst them: Alessandro Michele, Lee Radziwill, Patrick Kinmonth, Martino Gamper, Miguel Flores Vianna and Carolina Irving to name a few.
