Vandra Rugs

Vandra Rugs was founded in 2005 by Cia Attling, Larissa Bodén and Marie Wallenberg Olsson. With a background in marketing and finance, and an interest in art and architecture by heritage, the three women share a passion for craftsmanship and contemporary design. Tapping into traditional Swedish weaving techniques, Vandra Rugs creates a variety of styles that combine design and handicraft knowledge. All rugs are woven by hand either with a rag-rug technique or from yarn exclusively using the highest quality natural materials including cotton, wool-felt, wool-yarn and linen. Since 2007, the brand collaborates with a weaving atelier in southern Ukraine. The Ukrainian weavers have long experience in local weaving traditions and have received on-site training from Swedish weavers in order to acquire in-depth knowledge of Swedish weaving. Given the dramatic circumstances, the Ukrainian atelier has been relocated to a safer area in the small historic town of Kosiv, close to the border of Romania, and known for its artistic handicrafts and kilims. Most weavers and their families were safely relocated to this new atelier.

Signature style

Drawing from the unmistakable Scandinavian aesthetic, Vandra Rugs combines modern design with the highest level of traditional craftsmanship. Old weaving techniques and patterns are used in new and different ways and in new colour combinations. The brand is also known for its fantastic collaborations with world class designers, mostly Scandinavian, thus delivering an array of spectacular rugs. Vandra Rugs often combines both tufting and weaving, making use of and mixing different materials such as wool felt and wool yarn, lurex or sheep fur to cleverly create contrast and texture as well as visual effect.

Showstoppers
