Designed by Atelier Pendhapa, the Cleat Lounge Chair Oak reflects the studio’s language of furniture treated as architecture, shaped by French architect Antonin Hautefort and Indonesian architect Ignatio Tenggara. The duo hand-carve solid wood into sculptural forms, often combined with hand-woven French rattan mesh mounted using traditional methods onto a solid wooden core.
This Cleat lounge chair is built in European oak with a seat and back woven in natural bamboo rattan, and can also be ordered with a teak frame and upholstered seat. True to the collection’s language, Cleat reads as a body carved from a single whole, its arms stretching from the back to draw you in, while the hand-woven rattan is mounted using traditional methods onto a solid wooden core.
Both architects by training, Antonin Hautefort and Ignatio Tenggara met at the Architectural Association in London while completing their master of Architecture. While Antonin grew up in France, Ignatio comes from Indonesia: their radically different cultural background and their fascination for local craftsmanship motivated them to start a design studio together. Atelier Pendhapa was founded in 2019 with the ambition to dissolve the boundaries between furniture and architecture. They have since been developing projects of various scales from bespoke pieces and interior design to holistic architectural projects all around the world.
