Long before ‘craft’ became a marketing word, De La Espada was quietly building furniture the hard way. Founded by Fátima de la Espada and Luís de Oliveira, the company grew out of a small family carpentry business in Spain into one of the most respected names in contemporary solid-wood furniture, collaborating over the years with Luca Nichetto, Neri & Hu, Jason Miller and Matthew Hilton. Every piece is still made at their own production facility on Portugal’s Silver Coast, in walnut, oak or ash, oiled and finished by hand.
The Sela dining armchair is shown upholstered in Kvadrat’s Balboa fabric in colour 29 on a base in Danish oiled walnut, also available in ash or oak, its seat and backrest in dark tan saddle leather that can equally be ordered in black or natural, and is also shown in white oiled ash and oxidised oak. It offers armrests where the standard Sela chair has none, for the head of a table rather than its length.
