Many of Jean-Michel Frank’s most refined pieces were designed with his close collaborator Adolphe Chanaux, the cabinetmaker who helped translate Frank’s spare vision into gouged oak, rattan and straw marquetry. Ecart International, founded by designer Andrée Putman to rescue such overlooked modernist masters, still re-edits their work from the original archives.

This 1925 piece pairs a wooden structure with a split-peel rattan weave, one of several rattan designs Frank and Chanaux developed together.
