The Pétiole Chair by Alexandre Labruyère draws from the natural shape of the petiole, the botanic word for the stalk that seamlessly attaches the leaf blade to the stem: “Held back by its branch, the hanging leaf seems to fly,” says Labruyère. Defined by smoothness and fluidity, the base is the key element, holding the piece together. Using the steam bending technique, the wood is pushed to the limit of its flexibility. Hence the fantastic lightness of the chair whose hand-carved back looks as though it were naturally attached to the legs. Its lines are aesthetically powerful, yet light and fluid. Each piece is made to order in bespoke dimensions. The materials – oak, ash, sycamore, and red oak – are carefully sourced from a responsibly run sawmill located in France.
