Long before ‘craft’ became a marketing word, De La Espada was quietly building furniture the hard way. Founded by Fátima de la Espada and Luís de Oliveira, the company grew out of a small family carpentry business in Spain into one of the most respected names in contemporary solid-wood furniture, collaborating over the years with Luca Nichetto, Neri & Hu, Jason Miller and Matthew Hilton. Every piece is still made at their own production facility on Portugal’s Silver Coast, in walnut, oak or ash, oiled and finished by hand.
The Vega B dining chair, also designed with Anthony Guerrée, is shown in Danish oiled walnut upholstered in Kvadrat’s Elle fabric in colour 200, also pictured in oxidised oak with leather in dune, and available in other timber finishes, fabrics and leathers. It shares Vega A’s low, wide backrest but trades leather for a softer woven fabric as its default dress.

They have an in-house design studio, De La Espada Atelier, and also collaborate with nine leading international designers, as well as Portuguese artisans whose craft they highlight in their products. De La Espada represents true luxury: creativity rather than imitation; extensive research and development; traditional methods that are in scarce supply; a singular aesthetic point-of-view; and no compromise when it comes to materials or effort.
