Victoria Magniant designed the Daiku Barstool from her Paris studio, where she pairs French cabinetmakers and glassblowers with an eye trained on sculptors like Noguchi and Hepworth. For Magniant, choosing a material is also a way of defending a culture, a skill and an ethic of craftsmanship.

Pictured in a stained ash finished in deep Napoleon black, with walnut also available, the Daiku Barstool joins its seat and backrest through a matte-painted aluminium frame, a contemporary counterpoint to the solid wood’s calligraphic, watercolour-like staining. As with the rest of the Daiku family, the natural wood will continue to move with the seasons long after installation.

This creation is crafted from solid wood, a natural material that naturally expands, contracts and cracks with temperature and humidity changes. Variations in grain, colour, and texture are inherent and natural. These natural changes are a sign of authenticity, and part of what makes each piece unique.
