Founded in Porto by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec, Oitoemponto — Portuguese for ‘eight o’clock sharp’ — is a studio obsessed with precision and theatre, pushing lacquer, marquetry, rare woods and marble to technical extremes that turn cabinetmaking into something closer to set design.

The Puzzle chair by Oitoemponto takes its name and silhouette from a 1980s television set, the decade’s love of geometric panelling reborn in rosewood and black lacquer. Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec pushed their craftsmen to outdo themselves on this piece, treating each interlocking element as a true technical feat rather than mere decoration.

Pictured here upholstered in Toyine Sellers’ Phinda Ré fabric, a wash of blues, greys and pinks, the chair pairs a rosewood frame with black lacquer inlay for a cosmopolitan, faintly theatrical presence. Bespoke wood and lacquer combinations are available, letting each client compose their own variation on the puzzle.
