Much of the studio’s output pays homage to Brazil’s mid-century ‘brutalist’ architects — Niemeyer, Lucio Costa, Burle Marx, Lina Bo Bardi — reworking their curves, concrete geometries and tropical modernism into limited-edition furniture. The result is a cosmopolitan, fashion-influenced sensibility that reads as much like homage as it does design.
The Oscar floor lamp by Oitoemponto recalls the sweeping curves and clean graphic lines of Oscar Niemeyer, the Brazilian architect whose concrete forms defined a nation’s modernism. Its black lacquer stand rises from a stainless steel base with the same confident, uninterrupted curvature found in Niemeyer’s Brasília silhouettes.
Topped with a silk shade — available in a range of colours — the lamp balances the coolness of lacquer and steel against the warmth of diffused light. Part of Oitoemponto’s tribute to Brazil’s brutalist architects, Oscar proves that a single sinuous line can carry an entire architectural philosophy into a room.
Oitoemponto, founded by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec in 1995, mixes vintages pieces and asserted colors to give a cosmopolitan style to their creations. Their furnitures will be tomorrow’s classics with their simple and elegant design such as the Luccio side table or the Artur armchair.
