Founded in Porto by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec, Oitoemponto — Portuguese for ‘eight o’clock sharp’ — is a studio obsessed with precision and theatre, pushing lacquer, marquetry, rare woods and marble to technical extremes that turn cabinetmaking into something closer to set design.
The Copacabana mirror by Oitoemponto is named for Rio’s most famous shoreline, but its true reference is the wave-patterned central reservations Roberto Burle Marx designed for the Ipanema neighbourhood — those sinuous black-and-white pavements reborn here in an iron frame finished with gold leaf. Limited to 8 pieces, it is pure Brazilian modernist homage.
Inclusions of black lacquer and rosewood interrupt the gilded iron frame, echoing Burle Marx’s rhythm of contrasting bands. Hung on a wall, the mirror behaves less like an accessory and more like a fragment of Rio’s landscape design, brought indoors and rendered in gold.

Oitoemponto, founded by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec in 1995, mixes vintages pieces and asserted colors to give a cosmopolitan style to their creations. Their furnitures will be tomorrow’s classics with their simple and elegant design such as the Luccio side table or the Artur armchair.
