Long before ‘craft’ became a marketing word, De La Espada was quietly building furniture the hard way. Founded by Fátima de la Espada and Luís de Oliveira, the company grew out of a small family carpentry business in Spain into one of the most respected names in contemporary solid-wood furniture, collaborating over the years with Luca Nichetto, Neri & Hu, Jason Miller and Matthew Hilton. Every piece is still made at their own production facility on Portugal’s Silver Coast, in walnut, oak or ash, oiled and finished by hand.
Designed with Neri & Hu, the Duet chair is shown upholstered in Kvadrat’s Divina Melange 3 in colour 170 over a structure in white oiled oak, and is also pictured in Danish oiled walnut with Kvadrat’s Canvas fabric and in black painted ash with the same Divina Melange 3. As its name suggests, Duet was built to be seen in pairs, its two-tone wood-and-fabric combinations designed to be mixed across a table.
